Crown Prince Haakon to visit Nor-Fishing 2018

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon will be present at the official opening of the Nor-Fishing exhibition on the 21st of August 2018. This is the 21st time that a member of the Norwegian Royal Family attends the opening of this exhibition.

The Crown Prince, who is a naval officer himself, has at previous visits to the exhibition shown great interest in much of the equipment on show at the exhibition. Crown Prince Haakon is deeply engaged in innovation and international development issues, as for example food security in developing countries.

It is expected that more than 20 000 visitors from 70 countries will come to this year’s fisheries technology exhibition in Trondheim. This makes Nor-Fishing the largest international technology and knowledge exhibition of its kind. The show is an important meeting place for the entire fisheries industry, and this is where the technology that will solve tomorrow’s challenges in the industry is presented.

This year will be the fifth time that the Crown Prince will attend the exhibition. The Royal Family has over the years shown its keen interest in the fisheries industry, and has at many occiasions participated in support of Norway’s second largest export industry.

Already in 1908 the new Royal Family (Norway became independent in 1905) consisting of King Haakon, Queen Maud and little Crown Prince Olav visited the large Scandinavian fisheries exhibition in Trondheim. As king, Olav himself opened the first fisheries exhibition in modern times in Bergen in 1960.

Since that time, both the fisheries technology exhibition Nor-Fishing and the aquaculture technology exhibition Aqua Nor have been officially opened by members of the Royal Family. In 2018, it is the 21st time that a member of the Royal Family will be present at the opening.

As organizer of the exhibition, The Nor-Fishing Foundation wishes to express its gratitude for the Royal Family’s support and dedication through more than a century.
